The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has lodged a protest with the Indian side on 21 January,2012 following the death of Mr. Md. Rashed, s/o Mr. Mosharef Hossain, of village-Mathpukur, PS-Sharsha and District -Jessore, a Bangladesh national who was shot and killed by Indian Border Security Forces personnel at around 0445 hrs. today, 21 January 2012 along the Bangladesh-India border near main pillar no. 25/35-T under the Khulna sector 22 BGB Battalion Dhanyakhola BOP about 30 yards inside Bangladesh territory. The reaction of Bangladesh comes in continuation of earlier communications expressing the deep concern and dismay of the Government of Bangladesh at the repetition of such incidents of deaths of Bangladesh nationals at the hands of the Indian BSF.

The Ministry has noted that such recurrences are taking place despite categorical assurances at the highest level of the Indian government for exercise of maximum restraint by the BSF. Concerned authorities in India have been urged to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and to take action against those responsible for such reprehensible action.
