DR. Dipu Moni called for Emission Cuts and a Global Compact to face Climate Change

Foreign Minister Dr. Dipu Moni called the world community for a legally binding agreement on emission cuts with participation of all states-developed and developing- and institutionalization of global compact to face climate change challenges in four recognized tracks of action- adaptation, mitigation, financing and technology transfer. Terming Bangladesh as among the most vulnerable countries to global climate change, she stressed upon the engagement of the developed countries for effective action on adaptation and mitigation projects. Touching upon the multiple challenges that Bangladesh and the island developing countries are facing due to climate change, she called for united actions to face the natural menace.  Foreign Minister Dr. Dipu Moni is presently in Cambodia to attend the 19th Ministerial meeting of Asean Regional Forum (ARF). Foreign Ministers of all the ASEAN countries and the major Asia-Pacific countries including China, Japan, Korea, Australia, Newzeland, France, UK, USA, Russia, Canada, India and Pakistan participated in this very important conference.

 

Bangladesh Foreign Minister also had bilateral meetings with the Foreign Ministers of China and Myanmar in the side line of ARF meeting, where she had discussed important bilateral issues and issues of common concern. They have discussed ways and means to strengthen the trade, commerce, investment and establishment of physical connectivity for the smooth movement of goods and people.  At the request of Bangladesh Foreign Minister the China's Foreign Minister reiterated China's commitment in assisting Bangladesh in her infrastructure development. Referring to the meetings between Bangladesh Prime Minister and the President of Myanmar in December 2011, Foreign Ministers of Bangladesh and Myanmar reaffirmed their commitment to solve the problem of the Rohingya refugees and undocumented Myanmar nationals in Bangladesh at the earliest possible time.

 

Bangladesh Ambassador to Thialand/Cambodia Kazi Imtiaz Hossain, Additional Secretary Jishnu Roy Chowdhury, Additional Secretary (PMO) Paban Chowdhury, Director General Golam Sarwar were also present during the meetings.
