State Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Md.Shahriar Alam MP joined the celebration of 50 years of establishment of ASEAN, as chief guest, held this morning at the Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka. ASEAN Dhaka Committee, comprising of Embassy/High Commission of Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam and Philippines, organized the celebration. Ambassadors and High Commissioners along with officials of all 8 ASEAN countries in Dhaka were present during the celebration. Members of diplomatic corps in Dhaka also joined the celebration.
State Minister Md. Shahriar Alam MP congratulated the governments and peoples of the ASEAN Countries on this joyous occasion. He hailed remarkable success achieved by the ASEAN in the last 50 years. He also noted contribution of the ASEAN in facilitating extraordinary economic development, peace and prosperity in the region.
The State Minister mentioned Bangladesh shares a common agenda for peace, security and economic prosperity with the member countries of the ASEAN and wants to intensify political, trade, economic and cultural connectivity with the ASEAN. Referring to Bangladesh’s interest to institutionalize relations with ASEAN, he sought ASEAN member countries’ support in favour of Bangladesh’s initiative to become Sectoral Dialogue Partner of the ASEAN.
H.E Nur Ashikin Mohd.Taib, High Commissioner of Malaysia in Dhaka, spoke on the occasion as the Chair of ASEAN Dhaka Committee. Embassies/High Commission of all eight ASEAN countries in Dhaka organized a “Food Festival” as part of the celebration. He visited all the stalls and exchanged pleasantries with the respective country representatives. At the end, he tasted food displayed at different stalls.
